Hey guys, welcome again. I've recently finished another series and it was awesome. I think it will be a good idea to write an article based on a review and some fun discussions. What's the series? You may've already recognized it from the title of the article. If not search every words and phrases in Google or any search-engines.
Okay here's some clues: this is based on Egyptian mythology, there are many mummies, there are some nice jewelries and there are some cool powers. I think it's time to spill the name of the series: TombQuest by Michael Northrop.
Anyway, let's get in the main point with discussing all the books in the pentalogy: Book of the Dead, Amulet Keepers, Valley of Kings, The Stone Warriors and The Final Kingdom. There are some exciting news at the end too! Before starting, a small tag to make things clear:
WARNING: There are some spoilers from TombQuest. To assist the last four books I had to spill some plot from the previous books. Please read the book if you've not read yet.
Part 1: Books
Book 1: Book of the Dead
This book starts with Alex Sennefer and the problem that occurs in his body. Things goes haywire when Alex had to be admitted in hospital. Alex's mom, Maggie Bauer from Metropolitan Museum of Arts goes on to save her son using an ancient spell. Alex is saved. But this came with a great price: Death Walkers are now on the loose! Weird things happens with Alex and soon, his mom is missing. Alex decides himself to find out his mom and the quest leads to dangerous territories that no person in right mind should cross.
I think you've understood how serious the situation is. This book is the introduction to the next books, but this is not the explanation for what's going on in the whole series. This book is filled with some fantastic climaxes and big discoveries.
Book 2: Amulet Keepers
What do you mean by 'Amulet Keepers'? Well, I think you know what's an amulet. The thing is Alex has got a Scarab amulet and Todtman has got an Ibis amulet. Both amulet are powerful, but are there any more Amulet Keepers that needs to be in this story; well, you'll know soon.
Alex, and his best friend Ren goes to London where things are worse than New York City. Rains with blood instead of water are falling on the whole city freaking many people. But Alex is determined to find his mother and bring her back home. Here they faces goons hired by The Order and falls in various problems. Alex and his friend has to face another Death Walker that haunts the old city.
I think this book is awesome with some power plays. It is also emotional with the Dr. Aditi scene. I kind of felt hopeful about her, but she became out of hands. Anyway, London business must be successful to find Alex's mom and also save the residents. Can the Amulet Keepers save the city and find Alex's mom? Well, you need to read the book to find out.
Book 3: Valley of Kings
It turns out Alex couldn't find his mom! Rather Alex found a truth that changed their perspective. His mom has escaped and is on the run. Alex and his friend, Ren now goes to Egypt, the ancient land where the whole Egyptian civilization started. Alex is also accompanied by his cousin, Luke as he was informed about all these things in Amulet Keepers. These trio goes to the Valley of the Kings to find about Maggie Bauer, but again they encounters a Death Walker. Can they find Alex's mother and Cairo and other Egyptian cities from chaos? Can they escape The Order? You should of course read this book and find things out.
The best thing about Valley of Kings is how the love for each other works. Like, Alex's quest for saving and finding his mom. Luke's reason for his act. I won't tell the whole and so you need to read the book for knowing the whole story.
Book 4: The Stone Warriors
The Stone Warriors is plotted in Egypt like Valley of Kings, but this plot was staged in different places in Egypt and also you can find them in another country at the start of this book. Alex seems to be nearing his mom and closing the circle. But The Order is still on their trail. The vicious leaders of this secret organization is plotting something that is very sinister. This book is filled with heart-throbbing discoveries and fantastic information about Alex and his future.
I can tell only one thing about this book: this book totally is full of extreme climax that the mystery book readers always wish for. This penultimate book of the series gives quite a nice path for the last book. I also like the ending of this book, which is different. But I still don't want Alex to fall in such a crisis, do I?
Book 5: The Final Kingdom
It seems that everything the Amulet Keepers was doing and the aim they had failed at instant. The "Final Kingdom" has started with the Death Walkers as the leaders. What exactly is the Final Kingdom? It is now vague if you look in the last books. But this book explains this concept. Another special thing about this book is this one is plotted in a different place, not in our realm. The trio of Alex, Ren and Luke now goes to the afterlife of Egypt to stop The Order from taking hold of the world.
As an ending, this book is filled with some climaxing moments featuring Alex, Maggie and Todtman. Sorry I am wrong, this whole book is a climax for the readers of this series. And I enjoyed it a lot.
Part 2: Series Analyze
I think this whole series is totally cool! I've discussed another Scholastic's series: The 39 Clues in another article. And similarly this series is also awesome. I've known first about TombQuest in an advertisement at the end of the books in The 39 Clues series. I like Egyptian mythology related stories from Rick Riordan's series: The Kane Chronicles and I thought why not enjoy this one too. Though the whole god-thing is not much interacted in this pentalogy, but there are other fantastic parts of Egyptian mythology Michael Northrop works on.
If you like Scholastic books, they you'll definitely like this one. I think this books aren't much large like Rick Riordan's books, but it will give you enough materials to stick on. If you want to read a quick book, then this will definitely quench your thirst with it's awesome plot. And if you liked Rick's The Kane Chronicles trilogy, you'll certainly get on with this series. And another thing... okay, I think I will talk about those in the next parts.
I like the way Alex loves his mother. It is like the thing: family cares for one another. Alex's mother has also sacrificed herself a lot to help her son and it is a very nice encouragement for all of us. I also like the idea how a weak kid who has got many problems adapt with the world. Another thing you'll like is the way Ren and Alex has their back for each other which have created a new bond of friendship among them. Exploring this idea of friendship and encouraging the friendship is very important based on the present world. There are few more concepts that touched me very much and I liked them a lot. Writing those will make this article very mammoth, so I suggest you find yourself in TombQuest series.
Part 3: Fun Things
In case you haven't noticed, like all the Scholastic books, TombQuest is also filled with some fun activities I very much like. Here are some of them:
A: Hieroglyphic Alphabet
There is a hieroglyphic alphabet page at the third page of the book. It shows what English alphabets stands for what hieroglyphic alphabet. It is not actually an activity, but I have to mention it because the activities you'll find inside the book needs this page for figuring out the encryption. You can also make your own secret code by this alphabet.
B: Book Cover
TombQuest's every books' cover contains some hieroglyphic alphabets framed in rectangular shape. Decrypting these alphabets contains a secret message that says what lies in the next book. If you can arrange the alphabets and make out a sentence, you can find the message. I've already finished this one.
C: Hieroglyphic Message
There is a page in each books dedicated to a message. This one is a bit harder and some aren't easy to be made in a sentence. But this is the challenge this message offers. Decrypting it you can get a message related to that book. Use the Hieroglyphic Alphabet page to find out the answer.
D: Online Game
Like all the Scholastic series, this one includes a game which can be played by the readers. To get inside the game and receive huge rewards (i.e. "traps and treasure"), you need a secret code that you can find in the books. There are five codes in each books that starts with 'R'. You can also find some screen snaps of the game at the end of each books. Before putting the code, you need to create a character. I haven't yet played the game, but I am waiting for a perfect time to do that including play other Scholastic's Home Base games.
It is said that you need to create a tomb, arrange traps and challenge your friends. This sounds so exciting! I also like how the graphics of this game works from the snaps I've got. The characters are kind of cute with their small limbs but big heads.
Part 4: More to Say
If I want to say about TombQuest, I need to say again that you'll definitely like this books with striking adventures. Judging from the Wiki Fandom, I don't see much Wiki activity there, but I still think this book is exciting. Another thing is I like the way the Wiki users doesn't reveal the plot and only the synopsis, which keeps away spoilers from touching the TombQuest universe. You will like this book like other Scholastic fans does and this book is a standard Scholastic book for all the kids and also big guys.
Those who likes archaeology can also know a lot of Egyptian mythology. There are different versions of Egyptian mythology and most of the mythology we know were some theories by experts. So, Riordan fans can also get a taste of a different version of this mythology, and as a Riordan fan I recommend reading this books. This may seem impolite to put other writer's works in another one, but for the betterment of all the Riordan fans it was necessary because where most of the fans are also mythology fans.
Recently I've got a news that can make you confuse. There was a parade called 'Golden Parade' in Egypt on 3rd April, 2021. Through this, the mummy of 22 rulers of ancient Egypt were transferred from the famous Egyptian Museum to the new museum called National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in a royal parade. Among these mummies, were the famous mummies of King Ramses the Second, and Hatshepsut the Queen. In case you're wondering why I mentioned this news, it is because you'll find the mention of the famous Egyptian Museum in the series. In fact, it is an important part of the plot.
And there are audiobooks too! If you want to listen then you can find it in where audiobooks are found. I've got the Audible one and linked it in the description. So, if you want to like games, reading books, deciphering codes, or want to listen something - all things are available in the TombQuest franchise. So, just start reading now, I mean NOW!
